What Is Oeko-Tex Standard 100?
Oeko-Tex Standard 100, established in 1992 and now recognised in more than 100 countries, is an independent textile certification system. It tests for more than 100 harmful chemical substances — including pesticide residues, heavy metals, formaldehyde, pH value, colour fastness and allergenic dyes. Each product is assigned to one of four classes based on its intended use and skin-contact intensity.
The Four Product Classes
| Class | Description | Example Products |
|---|---|---|
| Class I | For babies and small children (0–3 years) | Baby blankets, baby piques |
| Class II | Products in contact with the skin | Household blankets, piques, sheets |
| Class III | Products not in contact with the skin | Upholstery fabric, curtains |
| Class IV | Decoration and accessory products | Tablecloths, gift textiles |
Sesli Tekstil blanket and pique products are certified under Class I and Class II.
Main Substances Tested
The harmful substances tested under Oeko-Tex Standard 100 include:
- Pesticide residues: Particularly important in cotton and other natural-fibre products.
- Heavy metals: Elements such as lead, cadmium, arsenic and chromium.
- Formaldehyde: Used as a crease-resistance finish and dye auxiliary; Oeko-Tex does not allow residues above its limits.
- pH value: Must fall within the skin-friendly range of 4.0–7.5.
- Allergenic and azo dyes: Azo dye classes that can form carcinogenic amines are prohibited.
- Colour fastness: Must meet minimum thresholds for perspiration, rubbing and light fastness.
Oeko-Tex in Practice at Sesli Tekstil
Blanket Collection
Sesli Tekstil blankets — in polyester, acrylic and cotton-blend options — are tested under Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class II. GRS-certified blankets made from rPET (recycled PET bottle) yarn also pass the same chemical-safety test. Buyers thus receive both sustainability (GRS) and chemical safety (Oeko-Tex) assurance in a single product.
Pique Collection
Pique products are evaluated under Class II due to their intensive skin contact. The white solid piques typically in demand for hotel and dormitory procurement are a priority within our Oeko-Tex certification scope.
How to Verify an Oeko-Tex Certified Product
Each Oeko-Tex certificate carries a certificate number that can be queried in the publicly available database. Verification steps:
- 1. Go to oeko-tex.com and open the "Check Certificate" section.
- 2. Enter the certificate number you have requested from Sesli Tekstil.
- 3. Verify the certificate's validity date, product scope and certificate holder.
Sesli Tekstil shares its certificate numbers and current Oeko-Tex documents with buyers on request.
Certifications Complementing Oeko-Tex
Sesli Tekstil products are manufactured under multiple certifications, each providing a different layer of assurance:
- Oeko-Tex Standard 100: Chemical safety (human health)
- GRS: Traceability of recycled content — read our GRS article
- ISO 9001: Quality management system in production processes
- BSCI / Amfori: Social compliance and workplace conditions
